This is also known as your unique selling proposition. Doubling down on what makes you unique helps give you an edge over your competition but it's also what keeps you real. Once this is defined then we go on to brand identity design.
Why start with why? Because if you develop a visual portfolio without it being rooted in your brand's identity, you'll end up struggling to feel cohesive and communicate clearly with your audience (and probably need to change your logo regularly because it doesn't quite fit).
While there are so many definitions thrown around the internet these days, I've found the following distillation the be the most useful:

Once we've had our discovery call, I'll send over the package agreement that aligns with your goals as we'll have discussed. An initial, non-refundable deposit will need to be made at the signing of the agreement. Once we've agreed on a package and you've signed the agreement and made your deposit, we can jump right into the design process!
My design process begins with the creation of 1-2 mood boards to establish your brand’s creative direction. These mood board options are crucial to nailing the overall personality, typography, vibe, and general color palette of your brand.
After the creative direction is set, I will send you a brand identity design presentation that includes one fully developed brand identity design, complete with logos, logo variations, brand marks, a color palette, typography, and brand elements like backgrounds, patterns or textures. We’ll then refine from there until it’s absolutely perfect!
The reason for this approach is that if the creative direction is established early, I can devote all of my creative brainpower to creating the most strategic, appealing, and effective brand identity in a decisive and detailed way, resulting in a complete brand identity that will strongly resonate with your audience.
I love working with creative and authentic small-mid-size business owners across the United States, in industries such as brand photography, hair & beauty salons, service industries, health & wellness, garden & landscape design, restaurants & coffee shops, animal husbandry & farms, outdoor programs for kids, and other creative disciplines. My dream client list also includes interior & landscape designers, florists, craftspeople, event planners, and equestrian branding.
I work with Wordpress and Showit sites, currently.
For most of my brand packages, payments are broken into two parts: a non-refundable deposit, and a final payment before files are delivered. Any additional services or changes beyond the 3 round of revisions or scope included in package will incur an additional hourly rate, as detailed in the package agreement you sign.
Invoices are sent via email and payment methods include online secure payment by credit card or bank account through Wave payments. Initial deposits are non-refundable. Final payments are also non-refundable after final files are sent.
For hourly web services (for my clients on retainer), invoices are billed bi-weekly. The first being due within 2 weeks of booking to hold your spot in my schedule. The final payment is due at the completion of the project and before any design files are sent to client.
After your final payment is received, I will deliver your final files in a shared Google Drive folder that include all logo variations, submarks and/or avatarsy, and brand elements in every color combination and the file formats listed with your package: (examples include) .ai, .svg, .png, .pdf, and .jpg. The print formats (if applicable) are high resolution (300 DPI) and screen at 72 DPIT. I will also provide launch graphics and a brand guidelines document containing the color codes and exact typography selections, so you will be fully equipped with your brand tools, and ready to move forward for years to come.
